TWO IN CUSTODY FOR GOSHEN 7-11 SHOOTING DEATH

At approximately 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 23, 2022, the Goshen Police Department were dispatched to a shooting with injuries at the 7-11 store located at 2200 Elkhart Road, Goshen, Indiana. Upon arrival, officers found Santino Garcia (27) of Goshen suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Garcia was transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment, but died.
The Elkhart County Homicide Unit and the Goshen Police Department began an investigation, interviewing multiple witnesses and gathering evidence. Two persons of interest were located and interviewed by detectives, each of whom admitted their involvement in the shooting. Alejandro Briano, and Leonardo Chavarria, both 16 years of age and residing in Goshen, were taken into custody for the crime of Murder late Saturday evening. Probable Cause for the arrests was found during a review by a judicial officer this morning, and Briano and Chavarria will be held, without bond, at the Elkhart County Juvenile Detention Center until further order of the Court. Formal charges are expected to be filed by Thursday, after which an Initial Hearing will be held in Elkhart Circuit
A forensic autopsy is scheduled to be performed on Tuesday at the Homer Stryker School of Medicine. This investigation is considered active and still on-going. If you have knowledge of this incident or know anyone who does, please contact the Elkhart County Unit at 574-295-2825 or 574-296-1888.
