The Elkhart County Homicide Unit and the Elkhart Police Department are continuing their investigations into the Bank Robbery and subsequent police action shooting which occurred yesterday afternoon in Elkhart.
At this time, it is confirmed that Elkhart Police Department officers responded to the dispatch regarding the bank robbery shortly after 3:30 p.m. on December 28, 2017. Officers immediately located the suspect vehicle and began pursuit which led through numerous areas of Elkhart and into the neighborhood near 6th and Wolf on the near south side of Elkhart where the vehicle was finally stopped.
Three occupants fled on foot and were pursued by officers. One of the suspects approached a motorist on Wolf Avenue, pointing a handgun at the motorist, and opened the car’s door at which time police were approaching on foot. The suspect was shot multiple times by Elkhart Police Officers Daniel Mayer and Jared Davies, inflicting serious injuries. Officers Mayer and Davies performed CPR until medics arrived and transported the suspect to Elkhart General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The deceased suspect has been identified as Corey Bailey, 30, of Elkhart. The other two (2) suspects were apprehended near the area of 6th and Wolf and are identified as Marshall Love, 29, of Elkhart, and Devores James, 28, of South Bend. It is believed that Bailey, Love, and James were the only individuals allegedly involved in the robbery and pursuit thereafter. Accordingly, there are no further indications of imminent threat to the public regarding these events at this time.
