HOMICIDE INVESTIGATIONS (COLD/UNSOLVED CASES)
No crime is more devastating to a family than a crime that results in the loss of a loved one: Homicide literally means death by another. Murder is knowingly and or intentionally killing another human being. Thus while all murders are homicides, not all homicides are murder. In addition to the families, neighbors and friends of the victim, the greater community suffers when lawlessness leads to the loss of life.
Although the vast majority of Elkhart County homicide cases are solved and proceed to successful prosecution, some still remain unresolved in our community. It is the desire of the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney to bring resolution to these cases and hold all criminals accountable.
The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney has collaborated with local law enforcement on several “cold cases” (major cases unresolved for several years) that have resulted in convictions. Finding justice for the victims of homicide and their families is our priority. Justice does not forget.
It is important that prosecutors and police communicate with residents of the community in order to further investigate pending cases. If you have any knowledge relating to any pending investigation, contact local police or our Investigative Division. This can be done by contacting the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney via e-mail or by calling (574)-296-1888 or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-288-STOP, www.michianacrimestoppers.com.
