ROSE FACING UP TO 68 YEARS AFTER CONVICTION FOR CHILD MOLESTING

In the late evening hours of Tuesday, August 12, 2014, 12 jurors returned verdicts of guilty against Gregory A. Rose, 56, of Middlebury, in one count of Child Molesting, a Class A felony, and one count of Child Molesting, a Class C felony. The charges arose from events that took place during the summer of 2010, where Rose engaged in sexual intercourse and fondling of a family member, who was 10 years old at the time.
Although the events took place in 2010, the offenses were disclosed in January of 2012, when the child wrote a note to a classmate, expressing that she had been raped. Bristol Police Sergeant William Lynch responded to Bristol Elementary, and initiated both a Department of Child Services (DCS) and law enforcement investigation. At trial, when asked about why she waited to disclose, the child replied, “Because when it happened he told me, ‘If you tell anyone, I’ll just do it again.’”
The jury received evidence from school officials, family members, as well as the child, which led to the guilty verdicts. In addition to the charges Rose faced as a result of the 2010 incidents, he has a previous conviction for Unlawful Deviate Conduct, making him a Repeat Sexual Offender. After the verdict was read, Mr. Rose acknowledged his prior conviction, pleading guilty to that sentencing enhancement, which could add up to 10 years to his sentence. Gregory Rose is scheduled to be sentenced on September 4, 2014, at 9:00 A.M., in the courtroom of the Elkhart County Correctional facility. He faces a maximum possible sentence of 68 years.
This case was tried by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Katelan Doyle and Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Vicki Becker in Elkhart County Superior Court 3 before Judge George Biddlecome.
