PROSECUTING ATTORNEY SEEKS LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE IN “MOTHER’S” DOUBLE MURDER OF HER CHILDREN

Media Contact: Curtis T. Hill, Jr. (574) 296-1888

Elkhart County Prosecuting Attorney, Curtis T. Hill, Jr. is seeking life without parole against Amber S. Pasztor, who has been charged in Elkhart County with the September 26, 2016 murders of her two children, to wit: Liliana Hernandez, age seven (7), and Rene Pasztor, age six (6). The enhancement request was filed this morning in the Elkhart Circuit Court.

Under Indiana law, an enhanced sentence of life without parole may be sought by the prosecuting attorney alleging that the murder victim was less than twelve (12) years of age. In addition, evidence that the accused has committed an additional murder is, in and of itself, a qualifying aggravating circumstance. Pasztor is accused of killing her children, one after the other.

“Indiana law provides that murders alleged to have occurred under certain circumstances are particularly heinous and therefore subject to harsher penalty considerations. We have alleged that this ‘mother’ murdered her two children, both of whom were under the age of twelve (12) years, one after the other, here in Elkhart County. In this circumstance, a sanction of life without parole for the murder of these two children is an appropriate consideration given the gravity of this horrible crime”, said Hill.
