MIDDLEBURY MAN’S DEATH LIKELY FROM ACCIDENTAL ASPHYXIATION

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is investigating the recent death of Mark J. Hochstetler (63) of Middlebury, Indiana, discovered on September 29, 2021. Although the investigation is still ongoing, a preliminary assessment of the evidence demonstrates that Mr. Hochstetler died as a result of an accidental asphyxiation. There is no evidence to suggest that the event involves any threat to public safety. Law enforcement investigators and forensic specialists will continue to evaluate the facts and circumstances surrounding Mr. Hochstetler’s death, and any person with additional information should contact the Elkhart County Homicide Unit at 574-295-2825.

The Elkhart County Coroner, Merv Miller, will issue the formal finding relating to the official cause of death upon completion of his inquiry.
