ELKHART COUNTY HOMICIDE UNIT FINDING ANSWERS

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is actively investigating the fatal shooting from Sunday morning in the 300 block of State Street in Elkhart. At this time, it is known that Lenell Dywane Williams (18), a recent Central High School graduate, died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds. Another young man, who will not be identified at this time, was also gravely injured during the event.

In the early morning hours of August 27, 2017, several people in the area heard what they believed to be gun shots and contacted authorities. Within minutes, police and medical first responders were present on scene and rendered aid.

Investigators are identifying additional persons that may have been present and have knowledge regarding circumstances leading up to the homicide. As additional details are developing, and information is being corroborated or contradicted by Investigators, no further disclosures will be made at this time so as to ensure the integrity of the investigation.
