UNIT ARRESTS ALLEGED COCAINE TRAFFICKER MEDIA CONTACT: Bill Wargo, 296-1888 On July 15, 2009 at approximately 5:45pm officers assigned to the Elkhart County I.C.E. unit made an interdiction traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1700 blk of Lincoln Way East in Goshen. The vehicle was driven by Horacio Lopez, age 30, 877 E. US 6, Indian Lakes, Ligonier, Indiana. I.C.E. unit personnel developed intelligence information over a period of two months that indicated that Lopez was allegedly responsible for significant amounts of cocaine being trafficked into Elkhart County from the Ligonier area. As a result of this investigation Lopez has been formally charged with 6 (six) Class A felonies of Delivery of Cocaine in Excess of 3 grams. The alleged deliveries took place during a period from June 1, 2009 to July 15, 2009. His bond was set on Friday, the 16th at $1,000,000 (One million dollars). Lopez faces a potential prison sentence of 50 years on each count, for a total of 300 years. The aggregate weight of the suspected cocaine purchased during this time period is 201 grams, with an estimated potential street value of approximately $20,000 (Twenty thousand dollars). At the time of his arrest officers also seized $3000 from Lopez.The Elkhart County I.C.E. unit is continuing this investigation and is sharing intelligence information with the Indiana State Police narcotics unit. ***
