October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Announcement Date:
2004-09-28

The month of October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
To mark this important event Elkhart County Prosecuting Attorney Curtis
T. Hill, Jr. and Wal-Mart have joined forces to host symbolic
"highchair displays" to raise awareness about family violence.
According
to Prosecutor Hill, "Family violence exists right here, right now,
where we live. Highchairs, cribs, and playpens should not be a ringside
seat to violence in homes in our community. It is a parent's
responsibility to provide children with a safe home to thrive in. Every
child deserves the opportunity to be raised in a nurturing environment
free from physical, sexual, and emotional abuse. Parents must put an
end to violence in homes or they will continue the cycle of violence
and raise continuing generations of victims and abusers."
The
highchair displays will be located in community agencies as well as the
CR6, Elkhart Wal-Mart Store through the month of October 2004. Visit
the Victim Assistance section of this web site for more information on
Family Violence.
