The Elkhart County Prosecutor's Office is announcing a new program that assists local merchants and victims of bad checks in an attempt to minimize losses from bad check writers. Merchant/individuals who have fallen victim to the writer of a bad check can now file a report directly with the Prosecutor's Office. To begin the process persons filing a report must contact the Prosecutor's Office or a local law enforcement agency to obtain a "Bad Check Packet" which will soon be available on our web site. Once returned, the Prosecutor's Office will then process the paperwork and the writer will be summoned into court in an attempt to resolve the matter and obtain restitution for the victim. Stacy Jeter, program coordinator will be hosting informational trainings with local area chambers of commerce. For questions or training dates contact her directly at (574)296-1837.
